Training That Turns Awareness Into Action
At the Patrick Joyce Fund, our mission has always been about more than remembrance. It is about protecting lives, supporting families, and creating stronger, safer communities through education, awareness, and preparedness.
For more than 14 years, the Patrick Joyce Fund has honored Patrick’s life through heart-health awareness, pediatric heart rhythm research, scholarships, and community outreach. Today, that mission continues to grow through First Aid, CPR & AED training programs designed to equip individuals and organizations with lifesaving skills that can make a difference in the most critical moments.
Led by American Red Cross-certified instructors, these hands-on training programs help participants gain the confidence to respond during cardiac emergencies before first responders arrive
Why This Mission Matters
The expansion into CPR & AED education came from something deeply personal to our family and community.
Patrick’s life may have possibly been saved if CPR training and AED access had been available at the time of his passing. That reality inspired us to help ensure more families, schools, businesses, coaches, caregivers, and community members have access to the education and preparedness that can save lives.
This year, that mission became even more meaningful.
Recently, one of Patrick’s lifelong friends introduced us to a young West Park boy named P.J. who was diagnosed with a serious heart condition. His story deeply touched all of us.
What felt especially powerful was learning that P.J. grew up in the same West Park neighborhood Patrick did and shares the same nickname Patrick had growing up. P.J. is also under the care of the same Cleveland Clinic physician, Dr. Peter Aziz, who later helped bring answers to the Joyce family years after Patrick’s passing.
What Patrick’s friends began 14 years ago in honor of Patrick’s life has now grown into something that may help support another West Park family during an incredibly difficult journey.
A portion of support connected to this year’s CPR & AED training initiative will help P.J. and his family while also expanding access to lifesaving education throughout our community.
